Generally speaking, the Lord tells them not to tell others. Dr Michael Rydelnik reasons from Matthew 16:13-23. In that scripture, Peter confesses that Jesus is the Messiah and he was expecting the Roman government to be overthrown and Jesus would establish his kingdom. In Matthew 16;20, Jesus commanded his disciples to tell no one that He is the Messiah. Why? In Matthew 16:21, Jesus told them in advance that he will be killed and raised the third day. Redemption in Jesus's name is spiritual and the Lord tells them not to tell others especially in the context of the Jews because that would mislead them to believe that faith found in Jesus is fulfilled through a political movement. The demoniac is part of the decapolis and was a gentile area across the Jordan river and the city is on the western side of the Jordan area, the other nine cities were on the eastern side and they were all gentile. It is okay for this non Jewish demoniac to tell others that Jesus has healed them because they were not going to expect a political revolution.
